New Program to Gather Community Input on Montgomery County’s Future
Montgomery County wants to know your vision for our community, and it has launched MCOFuture.com as a way to find out.
The program to engage citizens in the county’s challenges and opportunities is gathering citizen input on such issues as energizing the economy, quality of life, taxes and county services. Input will be gathered throughout the year at free public forums. The first will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 16, at Sinclair Community College’s building 12.
MCOFuture also is collecting citizens’ input through surveys and interviews with a cross-section of community leaders. Wright State University and the University of Dayton also are studying best practices used in similar communities facing similar challenges. Citizens can share their views online, as well as watch edited videos from the forums. The goal is to combine public opinion with research to determine action items. Email MCOFuture@gmail.com or call 496-7007.

YOU ARE INVITED TO ATTEND A SERVANT LEADERSHIP LUNCHEON PRESENTATION SPONSORED BY HOSPICE OF DAYTON FOR THE BENEFIT OF OUR COMMUNITY AND ITS SERVANT LEADERS
Author and inspirational guest speaker
Commander Scott Waddle, Retired Navy
At an exclusive luncheon and address
Wednesday, February 8, 2012
At 11:30 am in the Miami Valley Regional Planning Commission’s Center for Regional Cooperation
1100 West Third Street, Dayton, Ohio
Scott Waddle, is a 1981 graduate of the United States Naval Academy, earning a Bachelors of Science degree in Chemistry. Following graduation he was commissioned an Ensign and embarked on a 20-year career in the submarine force. He served aboard Atlantic Fleet Trident Ballistic Missile boats Alabama and Kentucky and Pacific Fleet fast attacks San Francisco and Greeneville. In June of 1998, after earning a Master of Science degree from the National Defense University in Washington D.C., Waddle was handpicked to become the Commanding Officer of the USS Greeneville in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii.
On the fateful day of February 9, 2001, Commander Waddle’s life was forever changed when he gave the order to perform an emergency surface maneuver that inadvertently caused the 9,000 ton submarine under his command to collide with the Ehime Maru, a 500 ton Japanese fishing vessel, killing nine people on board. Against the advice of his attorney and the Navy’s direction, he took responsibility for the accident. Through his book, The Right Thing, and his personal appearances, he gives an inside look at one man’s choices in dealing with insurmountable misfortune and offers a motivating call to others who are contending with adverse circumstances of their own.
As servant leaders, most of us have experienced situations where courage under fire and grace under pressure were needed to serve and lead. Authority is always built on service and sacrifice; you will be inspired and humbled by one man’s life journey. This luncheon is dedicated to all those who have, are and will sacrifice to serve others.
“Authority is always built on service and sacrifice.” - James C. Hunter, The Servant
